Economic Defence is about building and organising ourselves in a way that our own economy does not break down in times of war or under war threat. It means putting in place contingency plans ensuring that our offices and factories will be able to continue operations during emergencies, even after National Servicemen (NSmen) and equipment have been mobilised to deal with emergencies. It involves the economic sector sharing material and manpower resources to meet needs of Civil and Military Defence. On our part as individuals, we can cultivate good working attitude and constantly upgrade our skills. This is necessary for Singapore to stay ahead in competition as well as to help us stay relevant and employable in this rapidly changing world. A strong economic foundation, built upon sound policies and practices, helps us to withstand external shocks. Measures put in place allow business to run and stock piling essential items also prepare economy for times of crisis. To make Singapore livable for our next generations and future generations, saving electricity and water, and adopting environment friendly practices as way of life counts.
